Here’s How Good The Gear V2 RTA Is
The Wotofo Gear V2 is the updated version of the original Gear RTA and has seen some style and material changes. The most notable change is the non-adjustable airflow and change to PCTG ( Plastic) tank instead of glass. This choice of design and material makes for a more durable RTA however many will like to see it have adjustable airflow.

With the Wotofo Gear V2 RTA, you are presented with Wotofo’s iconic Black and Green Packaging with a window to see the Gear V2 Rta in the middle of the packaging.
With many rebuildable you do not get a lot with contents however with Wotofo you do get their highly-rated Aglet cotton which makes it very easy to wick the installed coil.
Once you have taken out the Gear V2 RTA you will notice it is fairly light compared to some other brand RTA’s.
With unscrewing and disassembling the RTA you will find a level plain build deck making it very easy to install coils and notice on the top section to be belled/domed, this will add extra flavor/ravine and concentrate the vapor from the coil creating a smaller more condensed area.

Build Quality And Construction
Wotofo is well known for producing a large variety of rebuildable products over the years as well as a few devices with many of their products being used for a number of years.

How To Use The Wotofo Gear V2 RTA
Using a rebuildable for the first time can be a tricky thing to get into but once you do it a few times even with a few mistakes like not wicking enough you will quickly pick it up as was a great way to learn to build is following Youtube tutorials or to even ask a member of staff in your local vape shop.
The way the Wotofo Gear V2 build deck has been designed makes it easy to install coils and wick the coils however there are some steps and tools you will need and things to know.
Tools:
- Flathead screwdriver ( supplied in the box)
- Wire cutters
- Coil jig tool or similar sized drill bit to the diameter of the coil
- Scissors
The first thing you want to do is take off the top section of the RTA from the base to allow access to just the build deck once you have done this, attach to a device that has adjustable power and make sure the device is locked or powered off.
Once attached to the device unscrew the 2 flat head screws but do not remove them completely you will see a gap forming between the base of the deck and the bottom of the screw.
After you have loosened the screw use a coil jig or drill bit to put the coil on and make sure you have one leg of the coil opposite from the other but on the same level plane.
You will then put one leg of the coil under each of the screws and gently line up the center of the coils with the center of the airflow underneath.
Once you have it in the position you can start to tighten up each screw but remember to not tighten too hard as if you go too hard you may start to warp and twist the coil.
After this step, you can and once the coil is level and the screws are tight you can then power the device on and set it to the low wattage and gently glow the coils. We find in most sub-ohm coils we will start at 20 – 30 watts. This step is to find any hot spots which are part of the coils not heating up evenly.
To get rid of hotspots you may have to move the coil around or you can gently brush the coil with the screwdriver but do not do this while firing the device as it could cause a short.
Once the coils are glowing evenly and have cooled down to room temperature you can then insert your cotton into the coil. With Wotofo’s aglet cotton it is designed like a shoelace and makes it really easy to pass through the coil but you will want to twist as you gently pull the cotton through the coil.
When you have pulled the cotton through and there is an equal length on either side of the coil you will now need to know how much to cut off. The best way to measure this is to push the cotton down the side and see where it will hit the bottom of the deck.
You will want to cut a bit extra just in case, once you have cut the excess cotton off you will then simply and gently tuck the cotton in the cutouts on the ends of the coils. Once that is done you are ready to put some liquid on the cotton, attach the tank and be ready to vape.
What Is Daily Usability Like?
Daily usability is really easy and has a great amount of flavor, however it is a lot different from the original Gear RTA and not necessarily in a good way.
The choice of removing the airflow adjustment should not have been an option on the table when designing however it is a good amount of airflow and not too airy with the provided coil.
You will need to be cautious with using menthols and citrus flavors though as many plastic tanks do not react well with those types of flavors and can start to damage the tank.
The flavor however is great and just like the original as well as when it comes to wicking or rebuilding the coils it is really easy as well. Wotofo has been known to produce some really great quality products over the years and we don’t think much can stop them.

Similar Products To The Gear V2 RTA?
There are many RTA’s that are similar to the Gear V2 however the QP Lethal is a similar performing RTA.
The QP Lethal is of a similar dimension however the reputation of QP for their machining, build quality and performance of their product is very high.
The Lethal now comes in 2 sizes however a 25 mm and a 30 mm for extra liquid capacity. The design of the QP Lethal is a single coil build with a small chamber around the coil increasing the flavor; however the Lethal has adjustable airflow, unlike the Gear V2.
The Lethal will also cost considerably with prices from $50-$70 / £40 – £60compared to the Gear as QP does not mass produce as Wotofo and QP focus on making sure every aspect of their products are without flaw and are seen as a more higher-end brand.
The Dovpo Blotto 1.5 RTA is another great example however it comes in configurations single coil or dual.

Gear V2 RTA VS Vandy Vape Kylin M PRO RTA
The Kylin M Pro RTA against the Gear V2 is something to be considered with the Kylin M Pro being designed to utilize mesh rather than traditional coil and wire.
Mesh rebuildable is often easier to build as you do not need to cut any wire and installation of mesh strips is as simple as putting in the slots and creating a smooth arch and installing enough cotton underneath the mesh strip.
Mesh will often offer more flavor and vapor production compared to many types of wire builds for traditional wire build rebuildables however some people may prefer the more traditional wire builds.
The Gear V2 RTA Warranty
Wotofo offers a 6-month warranty when bought from their online shop for mods, kits, and rebuildables.
However, Wotofo does not offer any warranty on accessories such as replacement glass, parts, coils, pods, disposables, and cotton. This is very common and expected due to the nature of the parts.
Warranty from other retailers can vary from location, countries, and regions you should always look into or ask what is covered.
Normally within the industry, accessories are not covered under warranty and are typically a final sales purchase, due to the nature of the products.
Does The Gear V2 RTA Leak?
The design of the Gear V2 with the non-adjustable airflow could allow some leaks although this can depend on the type of build installed and the amount of cotton installed.
Too much cotton and you will experience dry hits as there is too much cotton for the e-liquid to get through. This will also apply if the cotton is packed too tightly.
Too little cotton and you will experience leaks and flooding (too much liquid to the coil) this can empty the contents of the tank completely or over time.
What’s The Difference Between Gear RTA and Gear V2 RTA?
The largest difference between the two is the original gear was a collaboration between OFRF and Wotofo back in 2018 but with Wotofo containing on with the name and simpler styling.
The other differences are the Gear V2 no longer has adjustable airflow, PCTG glass section and a proprietary drip tip but remains to be a small profile product while also remaining to offer some of the best performance and flavor for its size.

Final Thoughts
